Celebrating International Women's Day is not just about acknowledging the achievements of extraordinary women globally, but it's also an opportunity to reflect on the progress we've made and the road ahead in achieving gender equality. As we take this moment to honour the incredible women who have shaped history, it's essential to delve into the realm of women in sports, particularly football, and recognise the strides we're making toward equality on the field.

The world unites on March 8th to recognise and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It's a day to raise awareness about gender bias, celebrate female accomplishments, and rally for gender equality. The theme for this year, "Inspire Inclusion," resonates deeply as we strive to eliminate gender stereotypes and create a world where everyone, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities.

In the realm of football, we've witnessed significant advancements in promoting women's involvement in the sport. The women's game has grown exponentially, with talented athletes showcasing their skills on a global stage. The dedication, passion, and resilience exhibited by female footballers have shattered stereotypes and proven that football is a game for everyone, irrespective of gender.

I'm immensely proud of the progress we've made in bridging the gap between men's and women's football. While there's still work to be done, the increasing visibility and support for women's football are promising signs of a more inclusive future for the sport. As a father, witnessing my six-year-old daughter, Lillie, fearlessly embracing football, getting stuck in with the boys, and showcasing her skills, fills me with pride. It's a testament to the changing narrative around gender roles in sports.

Lillie's journey in football is not just about playing a game; it's about breaking barriers and challenging preconceived notions. She embodies the spirit of International Women's Day by showing that strength, skill, and determination know no gender. As she navigates the world of football, I'm grateful for the support of her mother, Nicola, a strong woman in her own right. Nicola's encouragement and belief in Lillie's abilities contribute to fostering a sense of empowerment and self-confidence in our daughter.

Reflecting on this day of celebration, I extend my appreciation to the influential women in my life—my mother and mother-in-law, Joyce. Both have been unwavering pillars of support, demonstrating resilience, kindness, and strength. Their role-modelling has left an indelible mark on our family, emphasising the importance of equality and mutual respect.

International Women's Day serves as a poignant reminder that every individual, regardless of gender, has the right to pursue their passions and dreams. As we commemorate this day, let's continue to champion gender equality in football and beyond, ensuring that the next generation grows up in a world where opportunities are boundless, and biases are a relic of the past. Here's to celebrating the remarkable women who shape our lives and inspire positive change every day.

Best wishes,
